Library & Archives NT offers a range of services, programs and facilities for every kind of visitor.
Ask Us
Library & Archives NT holds extensive published and archival collections documenting the Territory's history.
We will assist you to use these collections and to find information in a variety of ways. When self-help tools and resources do not guide you to the information you need, support is provided through a range of channels.
You can lodge your enquiry via our online portal, completing a webform, or via email, telephone or coming to visit us in person.

Use this form to send your enquiry to the Ask LANT Enquiry Service or log into the Ask LANT Portal to sign up for an account and see the range of services available, including Interlibrary Loans.
We will acknowledge receipt of your enquiry within one business day and respond within 10 business days for most enquiries.

Phone us with your enquiry on 1800 019 155 or (08) 8999 7177 or to make an appointment with one of our staff members from the Access and Information Team who will be able to guide you through your research.

Library & Archives NT has three venues where you can search for and view collections.
Refer to What We Collect and Search Tools to identify collections you are interested in, then send us your enquiry so that we can assist you to locate the venue that holds the collections.

Visit Us
Library & Archives NT is the Northern Territory's premier public research library and archival organisation and also supports the development of library services across the Territory. Our venues are located in Darwin and Alice Springs.
We invite you to participate at our events, explore our exhibitions and spaces for reading, research and study.

Library & Archives NT has a vibrant program of temporary exhibitions presented throughout the year. Our permanent exhibition, A Territory Story showcases the LANT collection and takes you on a unique journey among the people, places and events that have shaped the Northern Territory.

Events and Public Programs
Library & Archives NT offers a diverse range of talks, workshops and behind the scenes tours. Our iconic events program includes the Chief Minister’s Northern Territory History Book Award and the NT Literary Awards (delivered in partnership with the NT Writers’ Centre) celebrating the achievements of established and emerging writers, storytellers and historians and supporting original research on Northern Territory history.

Library & Archives NT is committed to providing the greatest possible access to material in our collections to support creativity, innovation and the development of new knowledge through research.
When using our collections you should be aware of your obligations regarding copyright, moral and cultural rights.
Copying Services
The digitisation team at Library & Archives NT work to preserve and document our collections and make them accessible online.
Our Copying Service can provide copies of material in our collections that is not yet digitised, high resolution copies of photographs that were originally digitised at low resolution, and copies of oral history recordings.

Services to Public libraries
Library & Archives NT supports the Northern Territory’s public library sector in a range of ways and works to ensure the sector remains strong and vibrant.
Government Archives
Library & Archives NT is responsible for managing, preserving and providing access to government archives in accordance with the Information Act 2002. These functions include:
- Appraising government records, including approving and publishing records disposal schedules
- Transferring government archives
- Preserving government archives
- Providing access to government archives
- Providing standards for the management of permanent records
