Our Personal and Community Archives is continuing to grow thanks to the generous donation of materials from current and former Territorians and their families.

Making an offer - Donation

If you would like to donate Personal and Community Archives material to us, please read the Guidelines for donating photographs, community group, personal and organisational records to Library & Archives NT and complete the Offer of Material form.

Making an offer - Bequest

You can choose to bequeath your records as part of your estate to preserve records for the long term.

Finalising an offer

Before being accepted into the collection, material being offered is appraised by collection development staff for its significance to the Territory’s history. Once your material has been assessed as suitable, we will ask you to complete a Deed of Gift.

The Deed of Gift sets out the terms of the donation and has clear directions with respect to copyright, access and use of the records.

The Deed of Gift makes sure both parties are aware of their rights and obligations. It protects their interests and helps with the administration of the material.

A copy of the Deed of Gift, including a list of the material, will be given to you when the collection is registered.

Material in Library & Archives NT's collections is made available on open access wherever possible. Some donors may restrict access to collections or identified material within a collection for a period of time if the collection contains sensitive information.

Preparing your collection for donation

When preparing your collection for donation you must preserve the context of how and why the records were created.

Avoid disturbing the original order of your material as this will reduce the historical and evidential value of the collection.

Information about the identity of people and the dates of records are of particular importance to the research use of the material.
