Virtual Tour | Konrad Winkler: red earth and chalk dust, a retrospective

Library & Archives NT is excited to announce that our temporary exhibition Konrad Winkler: red earth and chalk dust, a retrospective can now be experienced online through a fully immersive virtual 360° tour.
In the mid‑1970s, photographer, teacher and artist Konrad Winkler spent three years documenting life in the Northern Territory in all its chaotic, colourful and unfiltered glory. Working primarily in the period between Cyclone Tracy (1974) and Self‑Government (1978), Winkler captured a Territory on the cusp of dramatic change, poised between its modest beginnings and emerging modern identity.
Through his photographs and cartoons, Winkler reveals a vision that is raw, intimate, rebellious, playful and utterly unique. His work offers an extraordinary snapshot of Territory life, from everyday moments to the characters, landscapes and social currents that defined the era.
Library & Archives NT is proud to present the first showing of this remarkable body of work in the Territory, now accessible from anywhere, at any time.
