NT Library is Moving to the Education and Community Precinct
The Northern Territory Library is relocating from Parliament House to the Charles Darwin University Education and Community Precinct, Danala, located on the corner of Cavenagh Street and Garramilla Boulevard in the Darwin city centre.
In preparation, the Northern Territory Library is relocating its collection items. If you wish to access collection items, please email ask@lant.nt.gov.au, phone 1800 019 155, or speak to one of our friendly staff onsite.
Danala | The Education and Community Precinct
Danala, the Education and Community Precinct (ECP), is a centrepiece project of the Darwin City Deal and will revitalise the Darwin city centre.
The relocation of the Northern Territory Library to the ECP will improve the Library’s public visibility and accessibility, allowing Library & Archives NT to share the Territory’s rich and unique stories with new audiences.
The ECP will create a lifelong learning environment, from early childhood through to tertiary study and adult learning, and whilst the Library will remain a separate institution, the co-location with Charles Darwin University enables significant partnership opportunities to drive the generation of new knowledge about the Territory.
The New NT Library
The relocation will improve the library’s public visibility and accessibility, and provide more spaces for the public including:
- a new children’s library to introduce young people to the Territory’s history and cultures
- a dedicated learning space for schools and community use
- permanent and temporary exhibition areas and an events space
- reading and outdoor terrace spaces
- collections relating to the Territory’s past, present and future, including lending collections
- a separate reading room for those engaged in research with Library & Archives NT’s archival and special collections
- oral history recording facilities
