Description

Once you’ve trawled through the archives and assembled your notes, how do you start writing a historical story? This workshop will consider the techniques in writing a historical story taking into consideration the story’s relevance, the author’s relationship to the story, the reader, the use of fiction and nonfiction, as well how to incorporate diverse voices and perspectives into a narrative. Participants will be encouraged to develop their own approach to a historical project through reading extracts from historical writing and experimenting with writing techniques.

Join historical nonfiction author Eleanor Hogan and archivist Alice Woods from Library & Archives NT (LANT), in a workshop to tackle these issues.

Eleanor is an accomplished author known for her publication Into the Loneliness, which was shortlisted for the University of Queensland Non-Fiction Book Award, and winner of the Peter Blazey Fellowship 2017 and the Hazel Rowley Literary Fellowship 2019 for biographical writing.

Alice Woods will give a brief introduction to the collections and services offered by LANT in Alice Springs and across the Territory and will also highlight some of the treasures featured in LANT’s archives.

This project is hosted in collaboration with Library & Archives NT and the Northern Territory Writers’ Centre.
