Description

Join us on the 50th anniversary of the first raising of the Aboriginal flag on Monday 12 July from 5.30pm at the opening of our new exhibition Black, Red & Yellow: Unity and Identity.

The flag was designed by a Territorian, Harold Thomas, a Luritji/Wombai artist from Alice Springs.

Featuring photographs, paintings, prints and memorabilia, the exhibition will track the journey of the flag from a symbol of protest to national icon and consider the significant moments that were instrumental to its wider acceptance.

The opening will include a panel discussion about the history of the Aboriginal flag, its unifying powers and role in the fight for social justice.

Please arrive at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

The exhibition is on display at the Northern Territory Library at Parliament House from Tuesday 13 July 2021 until Sunday 17 October 2021.
