Description

It's been said that journalism is history's first draft, but what happens when journalists are piecing together old stories rather than daily news? From rock 'n' roll treasures to true crimes of the NT, Writing in the Sand author Matt Garrick, and co-author of Larrimah, Kylie Stevenson, discuss how their books led them down the rabbit hole at the NT Archives, what they dug up, and how their paths curiously crossed over thanks to the rescued archives of another Territory journo.

Matt Garrick is a journalist at ABC News in Darwin, who has worked for more than a decade across the Top End and Central Australia. Writing in the Sand was highly commended at the NT Chief Minister's History Book Awards in 2022.
Kylie Stevenson is a Walkley Award-winning freelance journalist who has been based in Darwin for 15 years. Larrimah, her book with Caroline Graham, is an Australian bestseller and has been optioned for a scripted television series by NBC Universal and Matchbox Pictures.
