Description

From the author of the bestselling feminist manifesto Fight Like A Girl comes an incendiary new book that reveals how the patriarchy is just as harmful to boys and men as it is to women and girls.

Clementine Ford reports that one of the questions she is most asked in person and online is ‘How do I raise my son to be a feminist? How do I make sure he’s a supporter rather than a perpetrator?’ It is a question that many parents with sons are haunted by and, now that she is mother to a baby boy, it is a question that haunts Clementine too.

Join Clementine Ford in conversation with award-winning author Johanna Bell on her latest book Boys Will Be Boys. Looking at toxic male spaces and how gender inequality is learnt, the book questions how a feminist raises a son in a world that conditions them to entitlement, privilege and power at the expense of not just girls’ humanity but also their own.

Clementine Ford is a freelance writer, broadcaster and public speaker based in Melbourne. Her first book Fight Like A Girl was an instant bestseller and won the ABIA Matt Richell Award for Best New Writing in 2017.

Johanna Bell is an award-winning author of fiction and the founder of Darwin's StoryProjects and SPUN Stories. Her work has been shortlisted for a number of literary awards including the Overland Story Prize and the Alan Marshall Short Story Prize. In 2017, her second picture book Go Home Cheeky Animals! won Picture Book of the Year and in 2016 and 2018 she was awarded the Northern Territory Literary Award for short fiction and poetry. Her work draws on Australian landscapes and explores how place and desire shape people. Johanna has a six-year-old daughter and thinks a lot about how to raise children to be empowered thinkers.
