Exhibition - How it All Began: Tiwi Textiles and Prints

Until 26 November at the NT Library (inside Parliament House)
How it All Began: Tiwi Textiles and Prints, is an exhibition of works by Bede Tungutalum and Diana Wood Conroy spanning 50 years. Accompanied by personal archival material used in the creation of Diana and Bede’s book Tiwi Textiles, the works in this exhibition tell the story of a formative moment in the history of First Nations textiles and print making. It highlights a significant chapter in the history of art, of Art Centres, and the remarkable story of Tiwi artists.
 

Tiwi Textiles NT Book Launch

Wednesday 9 August, 4.00pm at the NT Library (inside Parliament House)
Join Diana Wood Conroy and Bede Tungutalum for the launch of their book Tiwi Textiles: Design, Making, Process. This book tells the story of the innovative Tiwi Design centre on Bathurst Island, dedicated to the production of hand-printed fabrics featuring Indigenous designs, from the 1970s to today. The book traces the beginnings of the centre, and its subsequent place in the Tiwi community and Australian Indigenous culture more broadly.
