'A Territory Story' exhibition set to open

If you have been into the Library in the past four months you may be familiar with the large white wall that looms from floor to ceiling as you walk in; or the sound of drilling, hammering, nailing and the occasional glue smell on level 2. 

From the 18th July all those noises and barriers disappear as our new and highly anticipated exhibition A Territory Story officially opens. And everyone is invited to celebrate. 

Using the Library collection, the exhibition delves into Northern Territory history through the lenses of ten themes including Larrakia Country, Courage, Tracks and Mapping, All Aboard, Territory Made, Home, Check it out!, Territorians, Darwin and Territory Classics.

The exhibition has been three years in the making from idea concept to the last nail being hammered in. Scores of people have contributed their time and energy in the production of this exhibition. 

Patrick Gregory, Director of Northern Territory Library and Archives extends a heartfelt thanks to all the people who have been part of making this exhibition a reality. “Whether as collection donors, proof readers, fact checkers or readers this exhibition would not have the same level of depth and personal stories without these contributors.

This exhibition is for everyone to enjoy, from tourists to locals alike but we feel this exhibition belongs to the people. The stories throughout the exhibition are theirs and we are grateful for the chance to use the library collection to share these stories.” Mr Gregory said. 

A Territory Story will be officially opened from 5:30pm on Wednesday 18 July. This free event is open to the public however bookings are essential.
