Discover the Northern Territory Library online

The Northern Territory Library has launched its new website making it even easier for users to discover more about the Territory’s unique history and culture.

The new online home, is a one-stop-shop that can be used by culture seekers, researchers, students, tourists and regular library visitors. 

Designed to be mobile friendly the website provides important information about the Library’s facilities as well as a ‘What’s On’ guide to current and upcoming events and exhibitions at the Library.

The website encourages people to explore the Northern Territory’s history through imagery and stories. They can also find out how they can get involved with the Library by contributing their own NT stories and history, donating items of historical significance or volunteering.

An exciting feature of the new website is its social media integration, which encourages users to share their personal NT history, flashback photos and old Territory images and videos via the hashtags #NTLibrary, #myNThistory and #madewithNTL with a feed of these images shared on the website.

Department of Tourism and Culture, Senior Director Northern Territory Library and Archives Patrick Gregory said people loved sharing old photos of the Territory. “Our social media is already extremely popular amongst people with an interest in the Territory’s history. The improved integration of social media  on the new website will help to ensure that the Library is sharing the Territory’s history with new audiences.

“The evolution of technology also means more and more people are accessing information from their phone or tablet, so it’s vital the Northern Territory Library makes finding information about the Library as easy as possible,” Mr Gregory said.

The website will also be further enhanced over the coming months with an exciting new search functionality to be added bringing together digital content about the Territory from different online resources to one central database.  
The new search functionality will make it easier to find Northern Territory historical material and access digital collections from multiple collecting agencies.

The search functionality and new database is expected to be rolled out later this year.
