And that’s a wrap! See you in 2019

Musicians in Fancy Dress

The year is coming to an end! The school holidays have begun, the wet season is well and truly underway and the Northern Territory Library is closing for a brief break over the Christmas and New Year period. Our last day is Friday 21 December 2018 and we will re-open on Wednesday 2 January 2019.

It’s been a busy but rewarding year at the Library, collecting and sharing Territory Stories and working with our local government colleagues to continue to develop the Territory’s public libraries. We couldn’t do it without the support of the community: thank you to all of our event and community partners, presenters, donors, contributors and volunteers for all your efforts this year.

Highlights for the year included:

  • The opening of A Territory Story, our ongoing exhibition about the people places and events that shaped the Territory
  • The launch of our new website, making it easier for users to explore the Territory’s history and culture online
  • New collaborations with public libraries, including a partnership with East Arnhem Regional Council to develop an innovative pilot classification system in the Galiwin'ku Community Library, using Aboriginal cultural concepts rather than Western classification systems such as the Dewey Decimal System
  • Showcasing our audio-visual collection with the inaugural film series Curator’s Cut, featuring rare films from the Northern Territory Library

2019 is set to be another productive year, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Library or connecting with you online.

Stay connected with us as we unveil new projects and events, and keep an eye out on our What’s On page as we announce new events throughout the year.

The Library wishes you, your friends and family a safe and enjoyable festive season and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
